Obituary of Walter Simmons

WALTER SIMMONS SHORTSVILLE: Former Shortsville resident Walter Simmons, 78, died Friday, April 24, 2009 at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center. There will be no prior calling hours. A celebration of Walt’s life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo St., Canandaigua. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, 360 Parrish St., Canandaigua, NY 14424. Walt was born in the Town of Bristol on October 15, 1930 to the late Leslie and Olive Jones Simmons. He had been employed by the Village of Victor for over 17 years retiring in 1986. He had been a member of the Victor Volunteer Fire Department and he and his wife Alice were permanent campers at the Paradise Park Campgrounds in Reading Center, NY. Walt served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He is survived by his children Debbie (Rich) Callon, Canandaigua, Dennis Simmons, Sr., Portland, ME, Ken (Patti) Simmons, Penn Yan and Lori (Daryl) Pitkin, Shortsville; his grandchildren Jamelle, Chris, Dennis, Jr., Jesse, Suzanne, Tim, Lisa, Miranda, Jennifer, Jeremy, Caitlin, Jennifer, Vikki, Jake (Hatice), Chelsie and Jill; several great grandchildren; two brothers David Simmons, Sr., Naples and Paul Simmons, Middlesex; his aunt Ruby Kunes, Canandaigua and many special friends at “The Gardens”. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice in 1999.
