Obituary for Elvira (Elly) P. McDermott

 

Elvira (Elly) Pastore McDermott entered into eternal peace on October 19, 2017, with her loving children beside her.

 

She was born August 29, 1928 to Ottavio and Emelia Pastore. She was predeceased by her husband William D. McDermott and her children Michael P. McDermott and Mary L. Schulmerich, her grandson Bernie Schulmerich, Jr and her brothers Nicholas and (Helen) and Vincent Pastore, her sisters Mary and (Joseph) Muscato, Ida and (Vincent) Martino, Antonette and (Carl) Radder, and Mary D'Amico, Nan Howard, Izzy Sullivan.

 

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in law, Deborah (Robert) McCauley, Sr. Pat McDermott, SSJ, Red Schulmerich, June McDermott (Richard Siena), Ann Marie (Vincent) Medici; her Grandchildren Tammy (Rob Koster) Visiko, Michael McCauley, Brian Schulmerich, Shannon(Adam Conley) Schulmerich, Christina Tarricone, Cyndi (Paul) Pieramico, Bill(Rachel) McDermott, Meagan, Gregory, Bailey Medici. Great-grandchildren, RJ, Emily, Nicholas, Sami, Brandon, Destanie, Mikayla, Teddy, Jason, Jeremy, Billy, Ian, Miles, Cece, Megan, Emma, Liam, Willamena. Great-great granddaughter, Bella. Many Niece and nephews.

 

She is also survived by sister in Law Mary Pastore and special friends Fr. Tom Mull, Sr. Pat Trovato, SSJ, Bernie Gallagher, Binnie Thompson, Jacena Brahm and her friends at 80 Parrish street where she lived the last 22 years, Annette and Tony Vitalone, Bean Olmsted and the PSB girls. A special Thank you goes out to her care-givers, her niece MaryBeth (Pastore) Schwartz, her great-niece Nicole Reed, Ginger Case, Erica Spann, Kellie Socola, Andrea Strong, Za' Meika Porter, Hyden Williams and Hope Gage.

 

Elly was a nurse at the VA Hospital in Canandaigua, Elm Manor, and Ontario County Health facility. She was an avid bowler and golfer. She was a member of the 600 club and in 2007 Elly was inducted into the Canandaigua USBC Bowling Hall of Fame. She is a graduate of Rochester School of Practical Nursing, Canandaigua Academy class of 1946 and St. Mary's school. She was honored as a distinguished St. Mary Graduate in 2004.

 

Elly was a loving and caring volunteer for Special Olympics, Meals on Wheels and hospice compassionate care. For her church she was a Eucharistic Minister, funeral greeter, member of Martha's Servers, Nocturnal Adoration Society, and St. Vincent DePaul. Elly was also a member of the American League Auxiliary.

 

A diehard Jets and Mets fan, Elly is going to be missed by so many, we will miss her loving and caring heart, her infectious smile and contagious laugh, her love for Woodstock from the Peanuts and her 12 layer Jello.

 

Friends may call Sunday, October 22, from 4-8pm at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. An 11am funeral Mass will be held Monday, October 23, at St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St. Canandaigua. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
