Obituary of Nancy J. Black

Nancy Jean Black-78 Our dear and loving wife, sister, aunt and friend passed away on November 28, 2017. She and her wife of over 40 years were longtime residents of Rochester and Canandaigua. Her loving compassion and generosity for humanity were evidenced in her extensive giving of herself. She had a long history of volunteer work at Hospeace House in Naples and House of John in Clifton Springs. She always had a great passion for helping others. She often would spend the night in a patients room to ensure she was available for the family members at any time to lend a shoulder or an ear. The family of her patients were very grateful to have her involved in their time of need. This carried over into her home life. She had rescued many, many rescue cats and dogs. These dogs and cats needed rehabilitation from their previous experiences. Her patience and guidance helped them live out life in a loving, warm "furever" home. She had worked at the University of Rochester for over 30 years. Those who were lucky enough to have had the joy to work with her knew her quick wit, and sense of humor. Nan had a very frank and direct approach to life. Her family often referred to her as Aunt Sassy. Her sisters thought of her like a toasted marshmallow, crunchy on the outside and gooey and soft on the inside. She was an avid defender of her loved ones. She was a champion for any underdog. Standing up and defending those who she loved and she felt needed someone in their corner. Her hobbies included photography, sailing, animal rescue and helping others.
