Obituary of Priscilla Jane Swing

Priscilla Jane Swing Canandaigua- Priscilla Jane Nellis was born on June 20th, 1941. She was the middle daughter of Richard C. Nellis and Margaret Nellis, and was born in the Brockport N.Y., hospital. Priscilla had one older sister Kathleen, one older brother Carl, and two younger sisters, Martha and Barbara. Priscilla grew up on a fruit farm on Ridge Road in Clarkson. She attended Brockport schools, and graduated from the State university of New York, at Brockport. In January of 1963 Priscilla set out into the BIG world with her brand new teaching certificate and a dream. Her first job was in Kendall N.Y. as a fill-in first grade teacher. Boy did she learn a lot! In April of 1963 Priscilla married James Swing of Shelbyville, Tennessee. In 1964 Priscilla started as a sixth grade teacher in Spencerport, N.Y. for a grand yearly contract of 4,200 dollars. Priscilla and Jim had two children in Spencerport. Mark in 1968, and Kristina in1969. In 1972 Priscilla's new family moved to Bristol N.Y. and the next school term Priscilla started teaching sixth grade in Naples School District. She retired from Naples in 1996. In 1982 Priscilla and Jim lost their daughter Kristina to brain cancer. After Priscilla RETIRED she started substitute teaching for Dave DiRaddo in Canandaigua. She subbed up through last week at the end of the 2018 school year. That is a total of fifty-six years in teaching. Priscilla has touched a lot of lives in those years, both of students and fellow teachers. Priscilla was still as enthusiastic about being in the classroom last week, as she was in 1963. She will be missed! A 2 pm memorial service will be held Sunday, July 8, at Lifespring Community Church, 5026 North Rd. Canandaigua.
