Obituary of Kenneth W. Cornick

Kenneth W. “Bud” Cornick passed away surrounded by his loving family at FF Thompson Hospital on June 19,2019.  A 23-year cancer survivor, he was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth F. and Helen of Gloversville NY, and his wife Janet, who also passed on June 19th, 16 years earlier.  Ken is survived by his children, Charles (Heather) DeVinne, DVM of Peterborough, NH, Nancy (Vincent) Toscano and Amy Lyons, both of Canandaigua; his brother Thomas (Valerie) Cornick of Scotia, NY, grandchildren Peter and Larkin DeVinne, Nicholas and Christian Toscano, and Amanda and Jason Lyons; nieces and nephews, and his dear and devoted friend Carol Milligan.

Ken served in the Army as an MP in the south of France right after the Korean War, then received a bachelor’s degree in English from Union College, Schenectady, NY.  He then began his successful career selling life insurance for NY Life Insurance Company, culminating in running The Paul Revere Life Insurance Agency in Fairport, NY where he and Janet resided and raised their family.  Retiring at the age of 55 enabled Ken to enjoy full-time being an avid outdoorsman - hunting with his birddogs Jake and Max; fishing the streams of Cohocton and Naples, as well as playing numerous rounds of golf every week. His father instilled the love of hunting in him, and “Papa” in turn shared the love of the sport with his son and grandchildren.  In addition, he and Jan were past members of Clifton Springs County Club and wintered in Vero Beach and Palm Beach, Florida.  With his health declining in recent years, Ken spent his time as an avid reader and watching his beloved NY Yankees on TV.

Ken will always be remembered for his quick wit and the one who others went to for a very carefully thought out piece of advice.  Interment of Ken and Janet’s ashes at Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua will be at a later date at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to either Wood Library, 134 North Main Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424 or Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department, 4285 Route 21 South, Canandaigua, NY  14424.
