Obituary of Matilda Crawford

Matilda "Tillie" Crawford Canandaigua- Matilda Crawford passed away on December 2, 2019 at age 100. She is survived by her children Charles (Judy Celentani), Dennis (Priscilla), Jeffrey (Deborah), Corey (Sandra) and Thomas, 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, her brother Raymond (Barbara) Wolstoncroft, sister's in-law Genie and Lori Wolstoncroft, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Charles, brothers Howard and Robert, sisters Marie and Gertrude and grandson James. Matilda was born in Mckees Rocks, Pennsylvania and grew up during the Great Depression. She worked for the Department of the Navy during World War II before marrying Charles in 1947 and moving with him to Canandaigua in 1955. She was widowed in 1967 and raised her five sons as a single mom. She worked as a real estate agent and later at the New York State Racing and Wagering Board at Finger Lakes Racetrack. She was a lifelong Democrat and for many years volunteered in local political campaigns. In 2008 she moved to Georgia to live with her son Corey and his family. There she made many church friends and enjoyed selling antiques on Ebay. She returned to Canandaigua in 2018 and lived at Quail Summit until her death. She will be remembered for her positive outlook on life, her faith in god and her generous spirit. Her family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Quail Summit and Thompson Hospital for their excellent care of Matilda. Friends may call at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo Street, Canandaigua, on Saturday, December 14th, from 2 to 4 pm. Internment of her ashes will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in a private service.
