Obituary of Joseph J. Addante

Canandaigua - Joseph J. Addante, 87, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2020 at Light Hill Home in Canandaigua surrounded by his loving family. Joseph was born in Rochester, New York on November 21, 1932. He was the youngest of eight children and attended Holy Redeemer Grammar School and Franklin High School in Rochester. He was a partner with his three brothers at Union Beverage, a company his father began in the 1940's, offering home delivery of soft drinks and beer. Joe married the love of his life Ann Alessi on November 26, 1953. They began their married life in Irondequoit where they raised four children. Joe and Ann then moved their family to Canandaigua in 1969 to purchase Sun-Aqua Resort on Canandaigua Lake, which they owned for 13 years. Joe and Ann enjoyed seeing families return year after year for the "family atmosphere" and hospitality that included a weekly "hot dog roast" for all guests and staff. Joe was a self-taught organist and often entertained the guests staying at the resort with his music. Joe had a home-based rubber stamp business for a period of time and was known to fix anything around the house! Joe and Ann wintered in Largo, Florida for 38 years where Joe was a champion shuffleboard player, bringing home many trophies! Joe loved playing dominoes and cards of all kinds – euchre, pepper, pinochle, you name it! He was hard to beat and could add a column of numbers in his head like no one else! He also enjoyed golfing, biking and watching the Buffalo Bills. He even had a hole in one at Victor Hills Golf Course in August of 2006! Most of all Joe loved spending time with his wife and family enjoying a good meal, vacationing or playing games. Family vacations usually consisted of renting a three-story house on the beach to accommodate four generations of family. Days were spent playing ping pong or shuffleboard, competing in family Olympics, walks on the beach, preparing and eating delicious food, playing lots of games and enjoying quality family time! During their early retirement years (at age 47 for Joe), Joe and Ann spent years volunteering at the local hospital in Canandaigua transporting patients. Joe was known to say "I have the most wonderful family in the world", speaking of his four children, Patty, Diane, Joe & Lisa, along with 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ann (Alessi), daughters Patty Stell (Jim Wolfe), Diane Braun (Michael), Lisa McFadden (Tim Niver) and son, Joseph Addante (Fran). Grandchildren: Casey Fleming (Peter), Carly Curran (Christian), Katy Brown (Rob), Chelsea Kehrli, Luke Kehrli, Nicole McFadden, Marissa McFadden, Leeza Addante and Joshua McFadden. He has 10 great grandchildren and is survived by several nieces and nephews. Joe is predeceased by his parents and all of his siblings. The family wishes to convey their heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses, volunteers and staff that so tenderly cared for Joe, especially those at Light Hill and the Wilmot Cancer Institute at Interlakes Canandaigua.
