Obituary of Thomas J. Gilbert

Thomas James Gilbert passed away June 9, 2021, surrounded by his wife and children. He was 83. The son of William (Bill) and Ruth (Carey) Gilbert, Tom was born June 29th, 1937 in Canandaigua, NY. Tom is survived by his loving wife Kathleen M. Gilbert, son Thomas W. Gilbert, daughters Aimee H. and Ashley E. Gilbert, his brother Al Gilbert of Macedon, NY and sister-in- law Amy Caito of Canandaigua, NY. Thomas is also survived by his grandchildren, Catherine, Dorothy, Rosemary, William, Natalie and great grandchild Dia, many nieces, nephews, family members and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved granddaughter Elizabeth Jane Gilbert, as well as, his loving brother and sister, Timothy Gilbert and Lynn Dougherty. Tom graduated from Haverling High School in Bath, NY where he served as class mayor. Throughout his high school days Tom participated in many sports including: football, soccer and wrestling. He went to barber school in Buffalo, NY and owned a barber shop for many years. He also served in the army reserves for 6 years. Tom played drums for local bands City Limits and the Chuck Norris Band. Tom had many talents and interests which included: drumming, photography, drawing, acrylic painting, making people laugh, being there for you, and being the best dad. Throughout his life Thomas enjoyed doing things for others and giving people little gifts which included copies of his paintings, flashlights, and applying a coat of wax on any car parked in the driveway. In honor of Tom, my father, please do something good for someone else. A memorial service will be held at Fuller Funeral, 190 Buffalo Street, Canandaigua, NY 14424 August 28th at 11:00am.
