Obituary of Bill Chappell

William “Bill” Carl Chappell left this world on October 5th, 2021 in the same way he lived his life. . . On his own terms. Born on July 28, 1948 to the late Clarence “Sam” and Helen “Bess” (VanGelder) Chappell, he thrived in Canandaigua all of his life. He leaves behind his high school sweetheart and wife of over 50 years, Rosemary. The life lessons he taught to his children Billie Jo (Michael) Vozza, Michelle (Kevin) Webb, Sara, Clarence ”Sam” (Sarah Clark), and Scott (Rebekah); bonus children Kim Joslyn, Ralph Rizzi, and Tiffany Roth will never be forgotten. The love for and pride in his grandchildren Joseph, Sara, Vincent, Alicia, Tyler, JT, Jase, Mackenzie, Jack William, Josh, and Jack were unparalleled. His Lil’ Lady will miss her “Pa” dearly. Remaining close throughout their lives, he will be remembered by his siblings Patricia (Anthony) Villanucci, Jean Batte, Joan D’Agostino (Charlie Cross), Joanne (Wilbur) Thornton and Michael. His Hayes siblings Jerry, James, and Jeff. Bill was predeceased by his brothers, Clarence “Sammy” Chappell, Jack Hayes; brothers-in-law Thomas Batte, Joseph D’Agostino; step-sisters Lynne McKendrick and Laurie Burdick; several nieces and nephews. A lifetime of friendships will be left with a great void. Bill’s first priority was always family and friends; if not with them you could find him in his shop, garden, building or wrenching on something. Idle or lazy are words that were never used to describe him. He spent the majority of his life as a welder and a machinist; one that everyone in Ontario and all surrounding counties knew. Not sitting on pretense, the family asks that you only spend time and appreciate your own families, that you make time to visit friends, and that you enjoy gardening. Friends and family who wanted to visit with him could always find him at home, so that is where he wants final respects paid to him. We will celebrate Bill’s life on Sunday, October 10th, starting at Noon. We invite you to come celebrate him with his family and friends to share a story, a beverage, and a meal at his home on County Road 10 in Canandaigua.
