Obituary of Francis C. Cary

Francis Clifford Cary, 63, of Canandaigua, NY passed away on February 1st, 2022. Francis was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Fran was born on September 27, 1958, in Rome NY and raised in a green house nestled next to the cable factory where his grandfather once worked. He was the sixth child of Frederick and Eleanor Cary. Fran spent his childhood in Rome where he began playing guitar and performing in bands with friends. He graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1976 and moved to Canandaigua to pursue studies in music at Finger Lakes Community College. It was there he fell in love with the Finger Lakes region and honed his skills as a guitarist and folk singer. He was an integral part of the Canandaigua and Naples local music scene, equally skilled as a solo artist or collaborative band member. Fran had a long career with the Finger Lakes OPWDD. He loved cooking for family, gardening, fall foliage around the lake, crossword puzzles, and hiking with his wife. He is survived by his wife Beth Lyons-Cary, his children; Elizabeth Carlson, Kristin Dolan, Steven Cary, and Magdalene Cary, his siblings; Patricia Cary-Joyce, Tina Smith, Mike Cary, Fred Cary, and Kathy Trela, as well as nieces and nephews, stepchildren, and grandchildren. The family will be holding a small private memorial service. A public celebration of life concert/event is being planned for the summer. Fran will be missed by many and remembered always.
