Obituary of Denise K. Bordash

Kathryn Denise (Denise) Glasstetter was born on September 29, 1943 in Greensburg, PA. She was the fifth and youngest child born to Joseph and Regina (New) Glasstetter. She graduated from St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana in 1965 with B.A. degree in History. She went on to receive a Master of Social Work degree from Syracuse University in 1974. Throughout her professional career as a licensed clinical social worker, Denise held a variety of roles including Medical Social Worker, Treatment Specialist and Substance Abuse Counselor. Denise worked as a Substance Abuse Counselor for Ontario County from 1989 until 2007 when she retired. Denise was known to have a uniquely gentle, and compassionate approach to working with people. A former supervisor wrote that she had "quiet concern for and dedication to those persons for whom all hope and light seems lost. She sought to bring light and wholeness to those in need." Denise married Robert (Bob) Bordash on February 10th, 1979. In 1982, their daughter Christa was born. They relocated from Pennsylvania to Upstate New York in 1984. Bob attended Elim Bible Institute in Lima, NY for two years where he and Denise both became licensed ministers. The family lived in Bethlehem, Israel for several months as missionaries. After returning from Israel, Bob and Denise took on a position as House Parents at Faith Haven, a residential home ministry for unwed pregnant teenagers. Bob and Denise were involved for many years in ministry outreach through their local church Zion Fellowship in Canandaigua, NY. Together, they conducted church services for inmates in the Ontario County Jail and also Bible studies and music for the elderly at Elm Manor Nursing Home in Canandaigua. After Bob passed away in 2004, Denise retired and moved to Clifton Springs, NY. She enjoyed spending her time walking her beloved beagle, Bella and planning various adventures by taking bus trips and finding local parks and other interesting places to visit. Denise continued to be an active member of her local church and especially enjoyed volunteering several days a week at a local food pantry and community lunch program in Newark, NY. Denise passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the age of 79. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. Denise leaves behind a legacy of faith and compassion. Her life touched and impacted many. She is survived by her daughter Christa (Bordash) Toulson, son in law Ethan Toulson, and grandsons Caleb and Ezra Toulson. She is also survived by her brother Anthony (Tony) Glasstetter of Pennsylvania, and several nieces and nephews.
