Obituary of John P. Farnsworth

John Parker Farnsworth November 5, 1935-July 27, 2022 Canandaigua, NY- John Parker Farnsworth passed away peacefully, at home, on July 27, 2022. He is survived by his loving wife, Jody Warner-Farnsworth; daughters, Martha (Todd) Herbik and Janet (Robert) Kuzdzal; daughter-in-law, Nancy Farnsworth; grandchildren, Katherine, Christian, and Mitchell Herbik, Zane and Emma Farnsworth, and Mia Kuzdzal; brother, Howard (Janet) Farnsworth; sisters-in-law, Ruth (David) Roberts and Linda (Doug) Young, and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his loving first wife, Jane, his son, Mark, and his brother-in-law, Leonard (Shelby) Warner. The son of the late Reverend Howard Nathaniel and Edna Parker Farnsworth, John was born in Ticonderoga, NY and raised in Geneva, NY. He was a proud Hobart College graduate. After working as a research chemist at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station for several years, John found his true career passion in education. He taught Chemistry and Physics in the Phelps-Clifton Springs (Midlakes) Central School District for 32 years. During that time, John chaperoned many senior trips to Washington, DC, as a senior class advisor. John taught evening Chemistry classes at the Community College of the Finger Lakes (now FLCC), inspiring many students to continue on to careers in the field of nursing. Upon retirement, he conducted tours of Washington, DC, Toronto, Boston, and Montreal for Nova Tours. John will be remembered as a humble, gentle, soft-spoken, and kind gentleman who loved his family deeply. He enjoyed attending Hobart lacrosse games to cheer on this beloved Statesmen, stepping back in time through a great book, living a year in France, backcountry canoe trips in Algonquin, and most of all, spending time surrounded by family. A celebration of John's life will take place at a later date.
