Obituary of Martha A. Cronise
Martha Alice (Westgate) Cronise of Macedon (former longtime resident of Greece) passed away at age 93 on July 30, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Martha was born January 5, 1929, in Lakewood, Pennsylvania, where she grew up on a dairy farm. She was the 3rd of 7 children born to Arnold and Alice Lobez Westgate. She attended Preston High School in Lakewood, PA, graduating in 1946. She earned her AAS in Industrial Chemistry from RIT in 1949 and worked at Eastman Kodak Co. as a research chemist where she met her future husband. She married Donald Cronise on August 13th, 1949. They would have celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary next week. Martha was a wise, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and volunteer.
She was an active member of the Greece United Methodist Church for many years and involved in United Methodist Women among other committees. Martha was a 4-H leader, teaching all of her children cooking and sewing, along with gardening and woodworking projects with Don. Martha enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, calligraphy, swimming at the YMCA, as well as canning and freezing vegetables from their garden. In their retirement, she and Don enjoyed travelling throughout the U.S. In 1999 Martha travelled solo to Thailand and Malaysia. She was a special guest at the wedding of their "adopted" children, Myat Lwin and Jeannie Khaw in Malaysia and visited her cousin Jim Westgate in Thailand.
