Obituary of Beryl Ann Pronti
Beryl Ann Pronti, age 77, of Canandaigua, NY, passed away peacefully at home on October 13, 2022.
Beryl was born on August 23, 1945, in Bristol, England and grew up in Jersey City, NJ.
Beryl is survived by her sister, Carol Pronti, and brother, Thomas Dooner, both of Geneva, NY. She is also survived by sister, Patricia (Trish) Dooner (husband Jeff Lewis) of Loudon, TN, as well as several nephews and nieces.
After completing cosmetology school at the Jersey State Beauty Academy and moving to Canandaigua, Beryl Ann began her long and successful career. At the young age of 19 years, Beryl acquired her first salon (Beryl Ann’s Hair Salon) in 1967, which she owned and operated for 55 years. She also owned and operated Beryl Ann’s Hair Salon II and Power Automotive for a number of years.
Beryl Ann enjoyed numerous activities throughout her life including many fun gambling trips to Atlantic City and frequent trips to different horse racing tracks throughout New York. Also, there was a time it was not unusual to see Beryl happily riding her bike or jogging within Canandaigua. She was very active in all aspects of her beloved community and could be counted on to financially support any organization in need. She has received many business honors of distinction over the years; however, Beryl never sought out or was comfortable with personal recognition. Her greatest joy was simply helping those in need, and she did that throughout her life.
A compassionate animal lover, she spent years caring for the feral cats which took up home close to her businesses. Beryl dearly loved and greatly missed her somewhat demented dog, Winston, and enjoyed her home kitty companions, Mickey and Nubs.
Beryl Ann will mostly be remembered for her love of life, uncompromising work ethic, and her devotion to her stylists, many customers, dear friends and family. She was truly one of kind and will be greatly missed by so many.
Beryl was preceded in death by her father, Angelo (Sonny) Pronti; mother, Beryl Dooner; brother, Joseph Pronti; and her companion of many years, Richard (Dick) Aureli.
Her family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the amazing caregivers who helped to keep Beryl at home, entertained, and so lovingly attended to during her final months. We could not have managed without you!
An 11 AM memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, October 26, at St Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St. Canandaigua.
In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of Beryl’s commitment to helping young people graduating from cosmetology school, donations can be made to the Beryl Ann Pronti Scholarship Award, Finger Lakes Tech & Career Center, 3501 County Road 20, Stanley, NY 14561.
