Obituary of Sylvia A. Courtney

Sylvia Courtney, age 85, of Canandaigua, NY passed away at home on December 4, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer, her loving husband by her side. Sylvia was born August 11, 1937, in Warsaw, NY. In 1959 she married Bill, her life-long partner, whom she spent 63 years sharing many adventures, homes and love with. She earned a RN Diploma from Warsaw Hospital and spent her working career caring for others. Her nursing career started at the Rochester Psychiatric Center, continued in Illinois, New Jersey and back in New York where she retired from nursing after several years as the Nursing Home Administrator at the Newark Wayne Community Hospital. Besides caring for others, Sylvia enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing golf, reading and leading book clubs, spending time at their Ft. Myers, FL home and cross-stitching. Even after having a stoke, she re-learned to do the things she loved with one hand, including playing golf, baking her famous jello cookies and making cross-stitch gifts for friends and family. Sylvia is predeceased by her father Earnest Bagg, mother, Aleata Bagg, brother, Gordon Bagg and great-grandson Oliver Courtney. Sylvia is survived by her husband William Courtney; sons William (Kathy) Courtney III of Palmyra, Daniel (Marcelina) Courtney of Hilton and Mark (Stacey) Courtney of Middletown, DE; sister Robin Vetter of Batavia; grandchildren Daniel (Margaret) Courtney, Alexa Courtney, Theodore Courtney, Andrew Courtney, Emma Courtney and Michael Courtney. Sylvia's friends and family may call on Monday December 12th at the Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo Street, Canandaigua from 1-3 pm.
