Obituary of Peter W. Jones

Peter William Jones, 83, of Bristol, NY, peacefully passed away in his home with his loving family by his side on Friday, June 16, 2023, after a battle with cancer. Peter was born on May 6, 1940 to John and Helen Jones in Irondequoit, NY. After Peter attended Edison Tech School, he went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1960-1963 as a Track Vehicle Mechanic. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, he worked as Member in the International Union of Operating Engineers for over 20 years. Peter worked for the Town of Bristol as a Heavy Equipment Operator for a year and then transitioned into the Head of Maintenance position for over 15 years at Honeoye Central School. Additionally, before retirement, Peter had stints at Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES as an Instructor of Heavy Equipment and Superior Truck Lines as a Truck Driver On September 5, 1970, Peter married Patricia (Helfert) Jones in Webster, NY and they had 2 beautiful children, Jason Jones and Jennifer (Jones) Covey. Peter was a "rock" to his family, a friend to many, and a man of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. An avid outdoorsman. A mechanic. A farmer. A teacher. A trucker. A construction worker. He was a tough man who loved to work, led by example, and never gave up. Although he traveled the world, Peter was his happiest at home in the Bristol Hills of NY with his loving family. Peter was predeceased by his father, John Jones; his mother, Helen Jones; and, his sister, Judy Adams. He is survived by his brother, Thomas Jones; his sister, Mary Kay Lupton; brother-in-law, William Lupton; and, brother-in-law, Jim Adams. Peter's immediate family will miss him deeply, including his wife of 53 years, Patricia (Helfert) Jones; children Jason Jones, and Jennifer (William) Covey; and, grandchildren Ryan and Jessica Jones, William (Billy) and Brooke Covey A private Memorial Service will be held in the near future.
