Obituary of William L. Allen (June 11, 1952 – Sept 9, 2023)

Bloomfield/Pumpkin Hook/Farmington

William, best known as Bill, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at FF Thompson Hospital. He was surrounded by family and went into the presence of Jesus early Saturday morning.

He is survived by his wife Mary Alice B. Allen and his daughters Martha Anne (Allen) Pickard & spouse Robert Pickard, Mary Alice (Allen) LaPlante & spouse David LaPlante, Catherine (Allen) Hutchinson & spouse Andrew Hutchinson, and Brigid (Allen) Marcus & spouse Scott Marcus. He had 15 beautiful grandchildren.

Bill was well known in the Farmington area as a successful milk hauler from 1970-1980, operated a dairy farm from 1980-1983, then went on to drive 18-wheel doubles for Wegmans Food Markets from 1984-2014. When Bill worked for Wegmans as a driver, he was considered to be one of the best and was often called upon to train other drivers because of his demonstrated abilities in leadership and skills as their lead driver. Bill had also served as a recording secretary and business agent for the Teamsters Union from 2014-2016. After the union position, he went onto to work for Veritiv Trucking Company from 2016-2020 as a driver and retired in 2020. Bill had been battling COPD and lung cancer since May 2022 which spread to his liver by spring 2023. Bill is best remembered as an avid gardener and loved to camp with his wife Mary Alice in their RV. Their favorite place to camp was the Adirondack Park and they also enjoyed visiting historical places and working on family genealogy together.
