Obituary of Cynthia J. Chittenden
Cynthia Justine (Hood) Chittenden
Canandaigua, NY - Cynthia Justine Chittenden passed away peacefully at FF Thompson Hospital on September 22, 2023. She was 71 years old.
Cynthia was born on February 8, 1952 to her parents Lawrence Hood and Margaret Hood (Updike). Growing up in Pittsford, NY, she was the eldest of three daughters (sisters Kathy and Debbie). She graduated from Pittsford Sutherland High School and attended college at Russell Sage where she graduated with a degree in nursing. She was a head nurse at Rochester General Psychiatric Hospital for many years.
In 1973, she married the love of her life, Bruce Pride Chittenden, whom she was married to for over 30 years. In 1979, she gave birth to a son, Gregory Lawrence Chittenden. During the first years of Gregory's life, Cindy gave up her career in nursing to become a stay-at-home mom. She spent her time raising her son and spending time with family. When Greg was old enough she went back to work as a teacher aide for the East Irondequoit school district. During that time she was an active member of the PTA and also a dedicated member of the Laurelton United Presbyterian Church, where she was an active participant in the choir and other functions. Some of her favorite activities included making arts and crafts, watching soap operas, and going to Rochester Red Wing games. She was very social and was known for her kindness, generosity and big heart. She would always try to make people smile and laugh.
In her later years, she became a resident at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua, NY.
She is survived by her son Greg, her father Larry (Lawrence), her two sisters Kathy Walker (Hood) and Deborah Odell (Hood), her brothers-in-law Michael Walker and Mike Odell, her nieces Angelique Caley Matrone and Stephanie Caley, her step-grandchildren Alyssa Conkle (Chittenden) and Gage Chittenden.
She is predeceased by her late ex-husband Bruce, her mother Marge (Margaret), and her stepson David Chittenden.
