Obituary of Janet L. VanKeuren
Janet Louise VanKeuren, age 92, passed into glory on November 23, 2023, in Kernersville, NC.
She is survived by her daughters Sharon Dreesen (William) of Canandaigua, NY and Yvonne Bunker (Donald) of Kernersville, NC; her sister Kay Ahrens (Judd) of Lynchburg, VA; grandchildren Jenny Dreesen (Matthew Pearce), Bridget McDonie (Benjamin), David Bunker (Laura), and Daniel Bunker (Chrissy Renken); 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard VanKeuren, her parents Lebert Cleveland and Katherine Hoover Cleveland, and her brothers Ronald Cleveland and Loren Cleveland.
Janet was born July 27, 1931 in Mansfield, PA. She graduated from Mansfield High School and married Leonard VanKeuren in June, 1949. She later attended Alfred University and earned a B.A. degree in Education. They moved to Canandaigua, NY with their two daughters in 1964, where she lived for 58 years. She taught high school Spanish in Geneva, NY for over 25 years, then became a successful real estate agent until retiring at the age of 80.
Janet was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Canandaigua, Rotary Club, and the American Association of University Women. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, dancing with her husband at the "Shufflers' Club" and attending concerts at the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. She loved to travel and enjoyed discovering unique cultural experiences during her many trips to Spain and various countries in Europe and Central America.
Janet loved language and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Visiting hours will be December 28, 2023, 11:30 am - 12:45 pm, at First United Methodist Church of Canandaigua, 100 N. Main Street, Canandaigua, NY. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1:00 pm. There will be a private burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
