Thomas Schlenker

Obituary of Thomas C. Schlenker

Thomas C. Schlenker Dec 27, 1942 – June 2, 2024 Tim (or Tom, depending on how you were introduced) was born in Rochester, NY, to parents Alvin and Ruth Schlenker. He graduated from West Irondequoit High School and went to work for the family business, Schlenker Produce, for the next 60 years. He married the love of his life, Sandy, and had two children who will forever believe he hung the moon. Tim loved the outdoors and was in his element in the fields, forests, and lakes of upstate NY. An avid sportsman and angler, he spent hours hunting and fishing—and curiously, it didn't seem to matter whether he got a deer or caught a fish for him to consider the day a rousing success. His kindness, optimism, and infectious smile will be remembered by all. Everyone who met him loved him—and everyone he met, he considered a friend. There was nothing better than one of his head-thrown-back, knee-slapping belly laughs—especially at his own jokes. Whether you spent twenty minutes or an afternoon with him, you walked away a better person for it. His gift was building connections, and he made all of us feel special, treasured, and loved. Tim was predeceased by his wonderful parents, Alvin and Ruth; infant son, Richard; brother, Donald; and mother- and father-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Boyle. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sandy; his daughter, Susan Porter (Jeff Smith); and his son Michael. Survived by grandchildren Cassie (Nate) Brillian, Jocelyn Porter (Brian Pratt), Ryan Schlenker, Kaylan (Tori) Porter, Madeleine Porter, and Adrienne Porter; Chad (Tasha) Smith, Christopher Smith, and Matt Smith; and Jessica (Mike) Kraft. Survived by great-grandchildren Jamison, Hans, Lawton, Dorothy, Dillon, Tyler, John, Collin, Harris, Easton, Josie, Sandra, Tobin, Asher, and Wesley. Also survived by brothers-in-law Tom, Rick, and Jim (Darlene) Boyle; sister-in-law Karen Schlenker; nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends who are truly family. Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 15, at 11:00AM at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St., Canandaigua, NY. Friends and family are invited to gather immediately following at the American Legion, 454 N. Main Street, Canandaigua, NY to celebrate Tim's memory.
