Obituary of Mitchell Austin

Mitchell Quinn Austin, born November 15th, 1994, in Rochester, NY, passed away unexpectedly in Cape Coral, FL on July 19th, 2024. He was 29 years old. Mitchell was a vivacious spirit; a kind, generous, and lovable soul who easily made friends with everyone he met. A creative person by nature, he expressed himself with his art throughout his short but full life as an accomplished photographer, chef, and writer. Mitchell was passionate about cooking and held an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts from Finger Lakes Community College. He refined his craft while working in several restaurants between Upstate NY, Austin, TX, and Cape Coral, FL. Mitchell served in the United States Marine Corps from 2019-2024 in Iwakuni, Japan as a Marine Videographer. He served honorably and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Apart from his military service, Mitchell enjoyed powerlifting, biking, and running. He challenged himself by competing in local weightlifting competitions, races, and triathlons. An explorer and seeker of novelty, Mitchell traveled extensively throughout Japan and across the United States including Alaska and Guam as well as South Korea, Peru, and Spain. Mitchell had a gift for capturing beauty in both grand and modest moments alike. He published his first book Perspective in 2023 which documents his time in Japan. Mitchell created two more unpublished works, a photo book about his grandfather and a short work illustrating his recent adventures traversing Spain. He also had a blog that followed his travels through photographs and journal entries, https://www.mqaphotography.com/. Mitchell is survived by his parents Glen and Martha Austin; his siblings, Sarah Austin (William Benton), Nathan (Kathleen) Potthoff, Rachel Austin, Heather Austin (Daniel Adomilli), and Derek Austin; his nephew Cedar Potthoff; his grandmother Jane Zimmerman; his aunt Carol Zimmerman, uncle Mark (Anne) Zimmerman, uncle Paul Zimmerman, and aunt Gail (John) Clare; his cousins Kevin Freese (Emily Fekete) and Brian (Katherine) Freese, Krista Zimmerman and Lora (Greg) Christoffel, and Kathryn and Kristyn Clare; and many beloved friends and fellow marines. He was predeceased by his grandfather Richard Austin, his grandmother Gertrude Austin, his grandfather Hatton Zimmerman, and his aunt Kris Zimmerman.
