Ammon Aikey

Obituary of Ammon H. Aikey

Ammon H. Aikey, also known as Nip or Ike, passed away at 80 years old on August 7, 2024, at home with wife Linda, while under Hospice care. Ammon H. was born on September 12, 1943, to Ammon O. Aikey and Pearl E. Reigle Aikey in Canandaigua, NY. Ammon is survived by his wife Linda M. Aikey, married 44 years, his sister Joan Aikey Day, 2 children, 5 granddaughters, and 7 great grandchildren. Ammon's 2 children were born to Ammon H. and their mother Sandra Dutcher Aikey in a previous marriage. There are nieces, a nephew and their collective children; 2 stepchildren, 3 step grandchildren, some cousins on both of Ammons parents' side of the family. I know you all know who you are, so perhaps you will be kind enough to fill in the blanks on the website. Ammon did not want a funeral service, no showing or anything along those lines. He wanted to die at home in Hospice Care, like his father did in 2001. Home with me, no one else caring for his needs and to have our golden retriever Bullet with him to be able to say his goodbye to him. I honored every wish he wanted done, his way. He did get to see most of his family that could make it, some friends and neighbors too. He was so amazed at the outpouring of love for him. His passing happened very quickly, almost at sonic speed, very little warning. He never had a clue how people felt about him; he got a beautiful gift from a neighbor, and he cried when he got that gift. I am learning about him more and more and I promise you, I am missing him too. I almost forgot to mention: Ammon and I both drove buses for Canandaigua City School District for over 30 years. Each of us, for whatever reason, actually loved it. There were some bumps along the road, but all in all, it was good. We raised 3 dogs from puppies, a lab-Dane mix and 2 golden retrievers that we got in 2015. We lost Cedric last year at the end of May 2023 to cancer. That was bad, and now Ammon to Cancer, along with numerous family members. Ammon passed quietly and peacefully here at our home on Turner Road, Canandaigua, in the Town of Gorham. He helped his dad build this house and the house up the road where his sister Margaret Peg Aikey and Howard (Bud) O'Brien lived and raised their family. He was very connected to Pa Aikey as I called his dad. They were very much alike. Again, Ammon did not want a service for himself. I believe he saw too many of them over the years and felt very strongly about this. I miss him and will have many good memories of our time together. Our commitment and marriage vows "Until Death do us Part", took on a whole new meaning. I finally understand the depth of our love and devotion. My heart has been touched by the all the kindness to me. It has been humbling. May I become a better person able to show love like I have recently been given.
