Robert (Skip) Nemecek
Age 93, Canandaigua, New York
Robert (Skip) Nemecek, age 93, passed away peacefully, on Saturday October 5, 2024, at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. Skip was born and raised in Syracuse, New York on May 1, 1931, and was the son of Robert and Beatrice Nemecek.
Skip married Virginia (Ginny)Carrington on September 17, 1950, and moved to Pennellville shortly thereafter. During the early 1950's Skip proudly served in the U.S. Army's 43 Infantry Division. After his service Skip built a home on the Oneida River where he and Ginny raised their family. In 1996, Skip and Ginny moved to Cape Vincent, New York to enjoy their retirements.
Skip began his career with Kwik Cafe Vending which was later sold to Automatic Retailers of America (ARA Services). After rising to Regional General Manager, Skip decided to enter a new field of employment in the mid-1970's as an HVAC Specialist and Electrician with the New York State Thruway Authority. Skip retired from the NYSTA in 1996.
Above all, Skip was the consummate conservationist and outdoorsman. Skip's adventures in hunting and fishing carried him across the northeast and Canadian provinces. Skip was a regular fishing tournament participant and routinely reeled in award winning walleyes.
Skip was predeceased by his wife, Ginny, of nearly 60 years, daughter Candia Lee Nemecek and sister Vanita (Paul) Thomas of Austin, Texas. Skip is survived by his brother Raymond (Jane) Nemecek of Macedon, New York and two sons Randy (Teresa) of Canandaigua and Drew (Judy) of Baldwinsville. Skip especially loved his six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Skip's grandchildren and great grandchildren include Nichol (Charlie) Avalynn and Emberlea Hoffman of Bloomfield, New York, Ryan (Chrissy) and Mya Nemecek of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jeremy (Courney) Wyatt, Owen and Everly Nemecek of Walworth, New York, Kyle, Oliver and Amelia Nemecek of Altmar, New York, Britton Nemecek of Baldwinsville, New York and Allyse Nemecek and Ana Seivert of Austin, Texas.
A Celebration of Life for Skip will be held at a later date.
