Obituary of James R. Ray

J. Robert (Bob) Ray, 78 died peacefully on November 29th after a short illness. Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Nancy (Gould), daughter Susie (Joe) Pompeii, son Jamie (Sheri Usner) and grandchildren, Joey and Nikki Pompeii. Bob graduated from Suny Fredonia in 1969, married Nancy the next weekend and enlisted in the US Army that summer. Bob and Nancy were lucky enough to reside in Heidelberg, Germany throughout his 3-year service. Bob retired from Crowley Foods (H.P. Hood) after 32 years as Regional Sales Manager. Throughout his career they moved several times starting in Almond, NY, Longmeadow, MA, Binghamton, NY and finally Lancaster, PA. Family was very important to Bob. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren. In 2016 he and Nancy relocated to Canandaigua to be close to their grandchildren. Bob led a very fulfilled life. He was an avid golfer, especially with Jamie. He also loved to travel on cruises, annual trips to Myrtle Beach with family and friends. He loved boating on Canandaigua Lake and tubing with his grandchildren. He loved seasonal camping at Hickory Hill in Bath, NY. Bob had many enjoyable parts of his life, he always looked forward to cocktail hour, he was a loving Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed going to many games at Fenway Park and going to his grandchildren's events. A very special part of Bob's life was his dogs. He had many dogs over the years but Golden Retrievers were his favorite. Bob always said your last dog is your favorite and his current Golden, Ollie will miss him terribly. Friends may call Saturday, December 7, from 12-2 PM at Fuller Funeral Home, Inc. 190 Buffalo St. Canandaigua. A 2 PM funeral service will follow at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Bob's name may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10306 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
