My condolences go out to all of the family of a man who I just discovered was my 2nd cousin 1X removed. (I am a great grandniece of Hilliard Monroe Jones). Though I never knew Mr. Jones, I can feel that he was a wonderful teacher and a kind and gentle soul who will be greatly missed. You are all in my prayers at this difficult time. I am sorry to hear of Mr. Jones' passing. He was a kind man. My earliest memory of Mr. Jones was when he was my Algebra teacher at IRCS. I was awful at it. He called me up to the front to solve a problem on the board. I don't know who was more surprised when I was correct, him or me!
Mr. & Mrs. Jones were good friends of my mothers, Myrtle Gardner (who passed away 2 years ago this month). Any time we met Mr. Jones there was always a funny story and pleasant laughter. My condolences to the family.

I have always felt privileged that I was able to be a student of Mr. Jones. You always knew that he loved teaching and loved his students. Our family lived two homes apart from 1952 until the move to Canandaigua. The friendship that ensued has been very important and special for our family. I will always remember the times when I could catch a ride to school with Mr. Jones, Mr. Marsh and Mr. Dingman.

I will never forget Mr. Jones and his zeal for teaching. I was fortunate enough to have him for both Algebra and Trig. It was because of him that I did as well in those courses as I did. There will never be another one. Sam and Family sorry for your loss.

Sam Jones was a giant of a man. As a beginning teacher, I quickly recognized that he was a master in his field and I was always delighted just to be in his company. He was so kind. I'm positive that he always had compete control of his classroom without empty threats of discipline and that he had the respect and admiration of both his students and colleagues. We, as educators, could only hope to be the kind of teacher that Sam was.

Sam, you not only taught us but you inspired those of us who were fortunate enough to be your students. You dared us to aspire to achieve greatness and we did. Your magnanimity lives on in us and we will never forget you.

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Jones' passing. He was a favorite teacher. He taught several of the math classes I took and I always enjoyed the experience. He was unique in that he lived the values he taught. I am proud to give him credit for many of my values.

Sam, our Mr Jones, was a friend and colleague at Indian River Central School. He always set an example of honesty and dedication making us all want to be like him. His students admired him as teacher and principal as he demanded high standards. In addition, he always had a smile and a warm handshake wherever he saw you. Because he was "ageless", I really think that we all felt that he would live forever which he will, in our hearts.

I lost my father at a young age to Hodgkins disease and I lost my stepfather later in life. I just lost another father who always treated me like a son. We will all meet again, of this I am sure. Now, the grief is heavy for us all and although I made my living with words, I can say no more, except, love to you all and another angel got his wings.
