Obituary of Stephen W. Sherry
Stephen “Chuck” Sherry
CANANDAIGUA – Stephen “Chuck” Sherry, 62, passed unexpectedly on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016 after wrapping up 18 holes.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana (Wingfield); parents William and Jean Sherry; daughter Kate (Ricky) Rivera; sisters Colleen (Donald) Brown, Maura Sherry-Hallstead, brother Paul (Jackie) Sherry, and sister Anne (Kevin) Olvany; grandson Nate Krueger; nephews James (Courtney) Altavela, Will Hallstead, Sean and Patrick Olvany; and nieces Hannah and Celia Sherry.
Stephen and Diana enjoyed three happy months of retirement together after he served his community for 29 years as a community service employment counselor for the Ontario County Department of Probation. He faithfully tended to his fruits, vegetables, flowers and birds and could frequently be found in Wegmans in between caring for his parents and keeping tabs on the Yankees’ season.
Growing up on Park Avenue, Stephen attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Canandaigua Academy in 1972. He continued his education at CCFL (now Finger Lakes Community College) and earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Potsdam.
A lover of birds, technology, and the game of baseball, Stephen uncovered a talent for carving pumpkins in recent years, which he contributed to the annual Canandaigua Halloween Pumpkin Walk. He was a member of the Canandaigua Gideon Investment Club, Victor Hills Friday night golf league and several fantasy baseball leagues. His sparkling blue eyes, deep voice, hearty chuckle, insatiable curiosity and love of mischief will be missed by all who knew him.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, August 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo Street.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24 at St. Mary’s Church, 95 N. Main Street. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery will follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to Ontario Pathways, P.O. Box 996, Canandaigua, NY 14424, or ontariopathways.org, or to an organization of the donor’s choice
